The story, the short version...

Hi, I'm Matt Horwood, a furniture designer and maker who crafts unique pieces that explore texture, colour, and form.

I’m the designer and maker behind mmhfurniture. I hold a degree in furniture and 3D design, earned from Leeds Metropolitan University and Lahti Polytechnic (Lahden Ammattikorkeakoulu) in Finland, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my craft.

In addition to creating beautiful and functional pieces, I also enjoy helping people optimise their homes and living spaces. I believe in the philosophy of Le Corbusier, that "a house is a machine for living in" and take pride in helping my clients create the parts that allow that machine to function at its best.

I am based in my Yorkshire workshop and being so close to the hills, valleys and spaces of north and west Yorkshire, the colours and materials of nature are always an inspiration for my work. The beauty of the natural environment constantly inspires my design aesthetic and informs my use of colour and materials.

Sustainability is at the forefront of my design philosophy. I use materials that are built to last, with a focus on durability and repairability. Each piece of furniture is numbered and comes with an authenticity certificate, and I maintain a complete record of all pieces created.

Influenced by the modernist movement's bold, simple forms and the playfulness and individuality of postmodernism, I bring a fresh and exciting perspective to the world of furniture design. With a versatile design background that includes crafting the iconic Brompton Bicycles triptych logo, I bring a distinctive and creative approach to my work helping clients maximise their living space and achieve the most out of their homes.
